Barishal office :: Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 41 off 36 and Towhid Hridoy’s 28-ball 40 guided Bangladesh to 140/8 in 20 overs against Australia in their first Super 8 game.
Australia won the toss and asked Bangladesh to bat first at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Litton Das opened the innings as usual for Bangladesh but the former got dismissed on the third ball of the first over of Mitchell Starc.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto made a partnership of 58 runs with Litton Das before the latter got out off Adam Zampa for 16 off 25 balls.
Rishad Hossain was promoted today who wanted to attack Aussie as soon as he came to the wicket. But he was trapped off Maxwell’s spin.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Shanto continued to fight with the bat. But Zampa trapped him leg before. He scored 41 runs before returning to the pavilion.
Shakib Al Hasan (8), Mahmudullah Riyad (2) and Mahedi Hasan (0) could not do anything with the bat. In the end, Team Tigers collected a moderate total with the bat of Towhid Hridoy (40 off 28 balls) and Taskin Ahmed’s 13 off 7 balls.
Pat Cummins made a hat-trick for Australia. Adam Zampa also took two wickets.
