barishal office :: The Railways has suspended the activities of SA Corporation, the company providing food on the train, in connection with the gang-rape of a young woman in the Chattogram-bound Udayan Express train. The company has been conducting catering services in Udayan and Paharika Express running on the Chattogram-Sylhet route. Now the operation of this catering company has been suspended in both the trains.
This decision was taken on Wednesday night. The owner of the company is Mohammad Shah Alam of Laksam, Cumilla. He has a catering service and contracting business in various railway trains. Apart from this, Shah Alam’s company has been running commercial activities and hotels on the lease of railway space.
Earlier, a 20-year-old girl was allegedly raped by staffers of a catering company on the Chattogram-bound Udayan Express train in the early hours of yesterday. Police arrested three employees of SA Corporation, the catering company that supplies food to trains, in connection with the incident. The railway authorities suspended Abdur Rahim, a guard on the train.
Yesterday night, an order was issued from the office of the chief commercial manager of the eastern region of the railways to suspend the activities of the SA Corporation. According to the office order signed by Assistant Chief Commercial Manager of Railways Mohammad Abu Bakkar Siddiqui, preliminary information has been received that a crime has been committed by the employees of SA Corporation, a company engaged to provide catering services on the Chattogram-bound Udayan Express train that left Sylhet station last Tuesday night. In this situation, until further instructions, all activities related to the operation of catering services provided by SA Corporation in Paharika and Udayan Express trains have been suspended.
A senior railway official confirmed the suspension of SA Corporation’s catering operations. He said that they came to know about the rape of the young woman in the moving train after Wednesday evening. After that, it was decided to suspend the operation of the company in Paharika and Udayan Express.
