BNP Leaders Injured as Stage Collapses in Sirajganj

Chandradi Desk :: A stage collapse occurred during a BNP unity rally in Sirajganj due to an excessive number of party activists climbing onto it, resulting in injuries to 25-30 party members.

The incident took place at around 5 PM on Thursday (October 17) at the Shahid Shamsuddin Gate area, where the district BNP organized the unity rally. It was reported that there was hardly any space for the activists, leading to a crowded situation.

BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku arrived at the rally at around 4 PM, just before the incident, while district and upazila BNP leaders were addressing the crowd.

Tarash Upazila BNP President S M Afsar Ali stated, “After a two-year absence, many activists gathered to catch a glimpse of Tuku Bhai. The stage couldn’t bear the weight of so many people, leading to its collapse, resulting in injuries to about 20-25 of us.”

The stage collapsed during the speech of Amirul Islam Alim, the co-organizational secretary of the Rajshahi Division BNP. At that moment, several leaders were present on the stage, including district BNP Vice President Nazmul Hasan Talukdar Rana, Joint Secretary Rashedul Hasan Ranjan, Tarash Upazila BNP President S M Afsar Ali, and General Secretary Aminur Rahman Tutu.

Among those present on stage were the chief guest Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, former MP for Sirajganj-2 and district BNP President Romana Mahmud, Vice President Mojibur Rahman Lebu, and General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bacchu, among others.
